    CHILDPROOF YOUR HOME IN STYLE

There are a few simple things you can do to childproof your home without having to completely rearrange your life.

The purpose of childproofing is to make your home safe for infants and toddlers. Unfortunately, this sometimes means that you have tacky child locks and covers over everything in your house. There are a few things you can do to make childproofing good-looking and practical.

    Plants

Many people will tell you to get rid of plants altogether until your child is old enough to help you take care of them without trying to eat them. Instead, install hooks from your ceiling to hang your plants from. This will allow you to enjoy the greenery without having to worry about them being in reach.

    Electrical Cords

You should try to limit the number of electrical cords that are in your child's reach, but understand that it's not possible to remove all of them. For cords that don't need to be accessed or moved regularly, you can secure them to the wall with contact paper. This will keep them secure and also prevent children from getting wrapped up in them.

    Curtains

When babies are at the age they pull themselves up, they will grab onto everything and anything to get on their feet. This includes your gorgeous floor-length curtains. Instead of getting rid of them altogether, replace them with valances. They will add a bit of style and decor to your room and remain out of reach of the child.

    Coffee Tables

Coffee tables can be dangerous to small children who are learning to walk or who fall down often. They may trip and hit their heads on the corners or edges of the table. Until the child is older, think about replacing the coffee table with a large ottoman. This will make the room a bit more comfortable and a lot safer.
